Although you should choose the type of contact lens that suits your lifestyle and needs, daily wear lenses have benefits that often outweigh that of other disposable or frequent replacement lenses*.
The human eye is often susceptible to infections, diseases and disorders. Although some of these are caused by environmental or lifestyle factors, age is one of the key reasons our vision starts failing together with the health of our eyes*.
One of the key age-related diseases is macular degeneration. This is caused by the lowering of key chemicals within the macula; specifically lutein and zeaxanthin. These chemicals protect the retina and macula from the oxidative damages of high-energy waves. As light waves enter our eyes, the excite electrons that may lead to macular degeneration or cataracts. The lutein and zeaxanthin in our eyes bind themselves to the electron and reduce the free radicals in our eyes*.
Consuming dark green leafy vegetables are good sources for lutein and zeaxanthin. There are eye health supplements such as Comfort Vision’s ProOcutein that provide the daily amount of lutein and zeaxanthin that your eyes need*.
WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV absorbing eyewear such as UV absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-absorbing contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-absorbing contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders. Consult your Eye Care Professional for more information.
